UK Government - Meeting the demand for improved public services
UK Government’s is facing challenges from the public while reforming the public sector reforms because like every other country, people want higher standards without paying higher taxes.
There are three models for meeting this challenge
1. Command and control: used in primary schools to make their conditions from awful to adequate.
2. Quasi-markets: used to provide more options to the public to by introducing multiple providers of schools and health care services.
3. Combining devolution and transparency: the Government contracts with service providers and holds them responsible.
Whichever model of reform prevails, public-service professionals must have the mind-set and ability not just to lead radical change but also to manage transformed services.
