The ExploreITSM.org website is operated and maintained by the Student Special Interest Group (S-SIG) of itSMF USA to stimulate the exchange of knowledge between the student and professional communities. The inception of this virtual knowledge exchange and social networking came from a group of students at Carnegie Mellon University with interests in service management as a discipline, practice and profession.

Through dynamic and provocative dialog, leading edge ideas on service management are presented, discussed, and refined on ExploreITSM, thus creating an open learning environment to the field of IT Service Management.

Around the globe, S-SIG chapters exist at the University level, allowing for physical as well as virtual networking and extending the frontiers of itSMF into the academic domain. S-SIG chapters sponsor programs designed to engage students in service management and create opportunities for interaction between students and service management professionals through online discussions, articles, case studies, guest lectures, projects, and internships. S-SIG chapter members become the future leaders as they transition to the professional world.

The ExploreITSM.org website and the S-SIG were developed under the guidance and leadership of Leah Palmer of Procter & Gamble (President of itSMF USA) and Majid Iqbal of Carnegie Mellon University (Senior Project Scientist at the IT Services Qualifications Center).
